Getting Rid of Carpal Tunnel at Home Naturally
Your wrist hurts badly and you reach for the ice-pack. The pain is worse at night – you tend to awake from your sleep because of it. It is even difficult for you to hold anything light between your thumb and index finger – your hand seems to have lost its grip. On visiting the doctor, he checked out how you use your hand daily, what are the tasks you normally perform, etc.and then ordered an EMG (electromyogram) and also a nerve conduction velocity test, from the results of which he came to the conclusion that you are suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Luckily for you, it had not progressed much, so he advised a cortisone injection along with splinting.
You are not happy about taking the injection. What would be the side-effects, you wonder. In that case, why not go for Natural Therapy? There are a number of ways in which Natural Therapy can effectively rectify the problem without the use of any drugs, leaving you tension-free at least in that respect.

A person suffering from Carpal Tunnel syndrome (CTS) normally feels a numbness or loss of sensation in the thumb, index finger and middle finger:
i.e., all the digits relating to the median nerve which connects with the carpal tunnel in the wrist. There is acute pain at the wrist, lack of grip in the hand concerned, and a general atrophying of the muscles over time, at the base of the thumb. Tapping on the wrist produces acute shooting pain in the hand.
The space between the wrist bone and the fibrous tissues which bind and support the wrist, is known as the carpal tunnel. The median nerve runs through this carpal tunnel, and connects with the thumb, index and middle fingers. Compression of the median nerve in any way causes pain in the wrist as well as numbness in the fingers connected to it. Obesity, hypothyroidism, diabetes and arthritis, and repetitive use of the wrist and fingers,as in continuous typing, playing certain string instruments, playing tennis, sweeping, etc. are all pre-disposing factors for this condition.
You can make use of one of several alternative methods in order to get rid of the problem of Carpal Tunnel syndrome.
One such method is acupressure. In this method, pressure is applied with the fingers on particular pressure points on the body in order to bring about pain relief, while at the same time improve circulation and enhance the innate ability of the body to heal. You can do this yourself at home if you know the points. One such point is at the crease of the elbow on the outer side of the tendon when you make a fist keeping the arm straight. Apply moderate pressure with the index finger only on this point, for 2-3 minutes at a time. Done regularly this will ease the symptoms considerably.
Maintaining a balance between Vitamin C and B6 levels in the body helps in reducing stress on the median nerve. Studies have also shown that lack of sufficient B6 in the diet can pre-dispose a person to CTS. Thus, it makes good sense to increase one’s intake of sweet potato, chicken, turkey, bananas, avocado and chickpeas so as to get the recommended 200 mg per day.
Vitamin B12 is another vitamin which is a good remedy for CTS. Liver, chicken, eggs and fish, including shellfish, are rich sources. Taking antacids may inhibit absorption of this vitamin and cause a deficiency.
Bromelain, found in abundance in pineapple, is another remedy for CTS. It can also be taken as a supplement till the severity of the symptoms reduce.
A little support and care will go a long way in easing CTS symptoms and eliminating them altogether. For more details do get in touch with a Professional Natural Therapist.
