Get Rid of Freckles

Freckles are nothing but clusters of pigment cells, occurring mainly on the face.  Sometimes they can be seen on the shoulders and upper limbs as well.

If inspected closely, each freckle is smaller than the head of a pin,  but when clumped together, they appear as light brown spots on the skin.

People who have freckles are genetically prone to them.  All it needs is a trigger to bring them out, and that trigger is generally provided by sunlight.

Though people of all types and races can have freckles, they show up more on those with light complexions.

Certain cells in our skin called melanocytes produce Melanin’s chemical, which is the pigment that protects our skin from damage when exposed to the sun.

In some people, the melanocytes make more melanin when the skin is exposed to sunlight – hence, instead of tanning evenly; they form freckles.

Freckles are mainly a cosmetic concern.  They are not a skin disorder, nor are they harmful except in rare cases when they are larger or very much darker, in which case there may be an underlying skin condition.

There are several natural methods by which the intensity of normal freckles can be reduced, or they can be got rid of altogether.

Since you are aware that it is the sun that triggers freckles, you would need to ensure that you do not expose your skin to direct sunlight, especially around noon.

While you do need the light of the sun on your body for various reasons, it is not a good idea to go all out for direct exposure when the sun is hottest.

If you must be outside at such hours, ensure that you are suitably clothed and use a sun-hat to protect your face from the sun.

Apply buttermilk on the freckled skin for 20 minutes and wash off thereafter.

Do this for 3-4 weeks and watch your freckles disappear.

You can also apply lemon juice, strawberry paste, or apricot paste to the freckles and wash off after a while.  Repeated use of this remedy will ensure the removal of your freckles.

Horseradish, potato, and tomato juice can likewise be applied over the freckles, allowed to seep into the skin, and then washed off after a while.

Honey is another good remedy for freckles.  It has to be left on the freckles for half an hour before washing off with plain water.

Make a paste of previously soaked lentils in water, and add some lime or lemon juice to it before applying over the freckles and washing off after a while.

Have a bath with warm water to which 3 cups of chamomile tea has been added.

The flowers and leaves of the elderberry plant are useful in removing freckles. Soak them in boiling water for an hour and apply a compress dipped In this liquid over the freckles.

Freckles can sometimes add charm to the face – one need not be too sensitive to their presence.  Yet if you must get rid of them, there are umpteen natural ways in which you can do so.
